EU Academy: ‘Europe’s choice: public interest vs political capture’

In this 12th edition of our interactive and practical two-day training for public interest advocates, we’ll explore the new EU political and institutional landscape after the June European elections and take a critical look at the von der Leyen II Commission and its priorities.

As always, the aim is to boost the strategic insight and advocacy skills of those defending public interest causes across Europe. The team of trainers includes Marc-Olivier Herman (EUChanger & Oxfam), Joost Mulder (Better Europe), Francesca Gater (ZOE Institute for Future-fit Economies) and insiders from the EU institutions.

To download the detailed programme with the trainers’ bio and find out more on the venue, pricing and registration, visit our website here.

EUChanger celebrates 5 years of working with change-makers across Europe

EUChanger was launched in June 2019. We celebrated 5 years of working with change-makers at an event in Brussels on June 20th. We were honoured to host a full room of public advocates to take stock of the new EU post-electoral reality and to look ahead at the Hungarian presidency of the EU.

Philippe Lamberts, former MEP and Co-President of the Greens in the EP and László Andor, Former Commissioner & Secretary General of FEPS (Foundation for European Progressive Studies) and Evelien van Roemburg of Oxfam gave introductory remarks before a panel with Eve Geddie of Amnesty International, Chiara Martinelli of Climate Action Network Europe and Tycho Vandermaesen of WWF discussed how public interest organisations should adapt to the new political and institutional context to remain impactful.

Since 2019, over 250 change-makers from across Europe graduated from our EU Academy and over 30 organisations have called on us for tailored trainings, coaching and consultancy. Meet them in these two short clips on our EU Academy  and on our work on demand .

Supporting public interest organisations

Our latest tailored training was a series of four webinars in June and July for staff and volunteers of member organisations of Climate Action Network (CAN) Europe working all over Europe for a fossil-free, socially just, and climate-neutral European Union. Find out more about our work to support public interest organisations on our website.

Meet the change-makers working for a better EU

Meet some of the inspiring change-makers who attended the last edition of our EU Academy that took place in Brussels last May:

Tara Fiechterworks as a Programme Officer for Lawyers for Lawyers, an NGO that promotes the independence of the legal profession worldwide and supports lawyers who are at risk. Solal Billon is advocacy officer for ATD Fourth World, an international movement that fights poverty and its root causes. Iiris Lamminmaki is the advocacy and campaigns officer for the Health and Environmental Alliance (HEAL). Paula Sacedo supports Mexican human rights organisations as the EU Advocacy Officer for the German Human Rights Coordination Mexico.

In our blog series they talk about the change they are working for, the challenges they face and their tips for more effective advocacy. All our blogs are available here
