November 2025 Updates

Our EU Communications Academy is back, Brussels 5 February – Register now!

‘Meeting the moment for the public interest’, our second EU Communications Academy, will take place in Brussels on 5 February 2026. This one-day training will explore effective communications to ‘meet the moment’ in hostile times for public interest advocates. It is designed for anyone looking to sharpen their core skills and understand what it takes for EU level public interest communications to cut-through.

The training will cover the ‘essentials’ of effective advocacy communications: media relations, online influencing, and clear writing. All in the context of backsliding, attacks and hostility. We’ll offer practical insights, tips, and tools for the unique challenges of communicating around EU decision-making.

“It was a great overview into policy communications in the EU bubble and some of the quirks that are unique to Brussels” - participant, EU Communications Academy I.

Join Fran Gater, our communications expert, Kasia Kowalewska, a social media strategist, and insiders from the EU media bubble on 5 February. Find out all the details, download the programme and register here.

Defending the green transition in the EU’s next budget

As negotiations heat up over the next Multiannual Financial Framework (MFF) the EU’s seven year budget - it’s becoming clear that climate ambition is slipping down the political agenda. Determined to keep the spotlight on a fair and inclusive transition, CEE Bankwatch Network is working to ensure that no one is left behind on the road to climate neutrality.

Last month, Marc-Olivier Herman of EUChanger joined Bankwatch’s Energy Transformation team in Warsaw to analyse the MFF decision-making process and support strategic campaign planning.

Active in 14 countries across Central and Eastern Europe, Bankwatch continues to advocate for stronger green investment to build a sustainable and resilient future for all.

Fair housing & fair energy for all: connecting grassroots action with EU policy

Did you know that since 2015, average house prices in the EU have risen by 53%?

Affordable housing has become a new — and crucial — action area for the EU, especially for those working toward social and climate justice.

That is why, CAN Europe, together with Ecolise, WECF International, Generation Climate Europe, and CBM Ireland, launched the Fair Housing & Fair Energy for All campaign. The initiative aims to build lasting, resilient movements for climate justice by empowering grassroots organisations across Europe. On the eve of the campaign’s launch, EUChanger’s Marc-Olivier Herman joined the groups to design strategies that bridge EU and national policies — all with the goal of easing the housing crisis affecting millions of Europeans.

Next, the coalition’s eyes will be on EU Housing Commissioner Dan Jørgensen, who is expected to unveil a European Affordable Housing Plan before the end of the year — a pivotal moment for advocates eager to see their strategies take shape.

Getting to grips with the EU’s exploding demand for critical minerals

The EU has launched a critical minerals crusade to secure access to cobalt, lithium, graphite and other essential components needed for the energy and digital transitions, its defence industry and other industrial sectors. The EU’s exploding demand for these materials risks fuelling environmental destruction and neo-colonial relationships with resource rich countries. A major flaw in the EU’s policies is the lack of measures to reduce the demand for critical minerals. SOMO, Heinrich Böll Stiftung, EEB, Seas at Risk, négaWatt and other members of the Beyond Growth Working Group of the EU Raw Materials Coalition have joined forces to advocate for transformative policies that address the need to decarbonise our economy while reducing our resource consumption in key sectors like transport and housing.

EUChanger supported the Beyond Growth Working Group for the preparation and facilitation of its strategy meeting in Brussels in October.

Global leaders unite for information integrity at Paris Peace Forum 2025

Independent journalism needs sustained public support to withstand rapid technological and commercial disruption.

This year’s Paris Peace Forum brought together leaders from 34 countries to discuss global peace and sustainable prosperity - including information integrity.

At the High-Level Conference on Information Integrity and Independent Media, co-organised by the International Fund for Public Interest Media (IFPIM) and the Forum on Information and Democracy (FID), governments from across continents stressed the importance of independent journalism and trustworthy information.

The outcomes were significant: 34 countries adopted the Paris Declaration on Multilateral Action for Information Integrity, and an International Coordination Group on Information Integrity was announced to strengthen global cooperation.

We are proud to support IFPIM’s advocacy towards the EU in favour of media freedom and information integrity worldwide.

Meet EU change-makers

During the very first edition of our EU Communications Academy this September, we talked with Oriana Henry, Communications Officer atBEUC - The European Consumer Organisation, and Dylan Power, Communications and Outreach Officer at Civil Society Europe (CSE).

They explained the importance of communications in their organisations, and some of the challenges they’re facing.

“As communicators, our role is to translate complexity — to make sure BEUC’s voice is heard in policymaking, but also that everyone, not just experts, understands what’s at stake,” says Oriana in her blog.

“Policy makes sense to policy people, but not every audience feels that way. We need different ways of communicating with the general public — and that’s where our role as communicators comes in,” writes Dylan in his blog.
